In my line of business, I spend countless hours etching and sketching out artistic styles unique to each individual I encounter. There is something about the fellowship between stylist and client that transcends business. For me, having serviced anyone for over five years, it becomes very difficult to refer to some as clients; they have become friends, extended family even. The exchange of experiences, the shared stories and hours of dialogue, bind us in such a way, it cannot be translated as any other thing but sisterhood. Over the years, we have argued over style direction, what to eat or watch during seven hour braid sessions. We have consulted and advised one another about clothing, sometimes life choices. At times we’ve been good listeners or even a quick shoulder to cry on. There is a communion, I value in each and every appointment. To celebrate those sister girlfriend cousin aunties, I’ve decided to create a page that highlights the beauty we share. Kicking off this initiative is one of my ace boon coons—– Dreaka Demande.
